Dear reader,
The recently published Europe’s Environment 2025 delivers a clear message: while Europe has made progress in reducing emissions and improving air quality, the overall state of the environment is critical. Nature is under severe pressure, water stress affects a third of the population, and Europe continues to warm faster than any other continent. These environmental changes are not abstract. Rather, they directly impact our health, from heat-related deaths and infectious diseases, to food insecurity.
Climate change and environmental degradation are therefore public health emergencies. Insufficient action will deepen inequalities and undermine resilience. Protecting nature and stabilizing the climate are essential not only for ecosystems but for Europe’s well-being, security and prosperity.
In response to these challenges, the European Climate and Health Observatory continues to support Europe in preparing for climate change and reducing its health impacts. By integrating information from a range of trusted data providers, the Observatory is an entry point for accessing climate-health data and knowledge. Our newly redesigned portal makes it easier than ever for policymakers, scientists and citizens to access and understand the data linking environment, climate, and health.
We invite you to explore interactive dashboards, maps and indicators on topics such as heat exposure, flooding, and vector-borne diseases. Let’s spread the knowledge on climate and health to support efforts to safeguard both Europe’s environment and the health of its people.
