This year has been marked by significant collective achievement around our five-year report, renewed strategic direction and a deepened sense of shared purpose across the EEA-Eionet community. Interview - Satellites and co-creation: 35 years of mapping Europe together
"My involvement began with the very first Corine Land Cover dataset, which has a reference year of 1990. At that time, I was the project manager for Estonia’s first national land cover dataset, even before Estonia joined the EEA and EU.
That was my introduction to CLC and it has stayed with me ever since.
Once CORINE Land Cover, always CORINE Land Cover."
Interview - Our job is to help shape the environment of tomorrow
"As Chair of the Management Board, my job is to guide discussions, build consensus, and ensure every voice is heard. With representatives from 32 EEA member countries, the EU institutions, and the Western Balkans, it’s a truly pan‑European community.
I often say, when you bring so many perspectives together, the challenge isn’t finding ideas — it is weaving them into one coherent vision.".
Europe's environment 2025: Knowledge on environment, climate and sustainability
Significant progress has been made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, but the overall state of Europe’s environment is not good, especially its nature which continues to face degradation, overexploitation and biodiversity loss.
The impacts of accelerating climate change are also an urgent challenge, according to the European Environment Agency’s (EEA) most comprehensive, ‘state of environment’ report, published in this quarter.
The outlook for most environmental trends is concerning and poses major risks to Europe’s economic prosperity, security and quality of life.
