From knowledge to action:
strengthening Europe’s climate resilience through Climate-ADAPT

Climate change impacts across Europe are no longer hypothetical, they are already evident in intensifying heatwaves, wildfires, flooding, and growing pressure on infrastructure. A recent joint report by the EEA and Eurofound describes Europe as “overheated and underprepared”. At the same time, a study commissioned by the Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) and funded under Horizon Europe states the EU needs to invest €70 billion per year in climate adaptation up to 2050. These findings reinforce the urgent need for faster, more coordinated action across all levels of governance.

Against this backdrop, Climate-ADAPT continues to develop it’s reach and support. The recent inclusion of the republic of Moldova as a cooperating country of the EEA and Eionet (European Environment Information and Observation Network) marks an important step, enabling the platform to expand its coverage and services for Moldova while strengthening regional cooperation and the shared evidence base for adaptation.

The challenge now lies not only in generating knowledge, but in translating it into practice. Climate-ADAPT is evolving to support this shift by enhancing its practical value and supporting implementation. Through close cooperation with EEA member countries, gaps in the Climate-ADAPT case study catalogue are gradually closed. A recent case study on climate-resilient road infrastructure by the Polish Ministry of Climate and Environment, provides concrete insights into strengthening transport resilience and fosters peer-to peer learning across Europe.

As adaptation knowledge expands, accessibility becomes increasingly important.
Since its launch in August 2025, the Climate-ADAPT AI search assistant
has substantially improved, making it easier for users to access and apply relevant information.
